On Thursday night December 16, 2010 the WEC 53 event will take place at the Jobing.com Arena in Glendale Arizona with the main event fight Benson Henderson vs Anthony Pettis fighting. This will be a very special event because it will be the very last time the WEC will hold an event because they are uniting with the UFC. The first match of this great event begins at 6:20pm with the preliminary rounds. The premlinary rounds consist of Renan Baroa vs Chris Cariaso, Yuri Alcantara vs Ricardo Lamas, Danny Castillo vs Will Kerr, Eddie Wineland vs Ken Stone, Brad Pickett vs Ivan Menjivar, Jamie Varner vs Shane Roller, and Tie Quan Zhang vs Daniel Downes.
The main event bouts are as followings: Bart Palaszewski vs Kamal Shalorus, Donald Cerrone vs Chris Horodecki, Scott Jorgensen vs Dominick Cruz for the WEC Bantamweight Championship, and the main event of the evening is Anthony Pettis vs Ben Henderson for the WEC Lightweight Championship. Benson Henderson is the champion and is weighing in at 155 pounds while Pettis is weighing in at 154 pounds.

Pettis is a newcomer to the WEC and has only been in the organization for 6 months. Since being in the WEC he has garnered 4 victories, one in particular is the win over Shane Roller which he won by submission. Henderson on the other had has not loss one match in the WEC and is one of their best athletes. He has a perfect record of 5-0 and is planning to go all out for this match tonight. There is a lot riding on the winner of the main event especially with the two fighting leagues uniting. Because of the uniting the winner of this match will have the opportunity to face the winner of the UFC 125 main event when Frankie Edgar takes on Gray Maynard.
I see a lot of difficulty Pettis admitted. This guy is a great fighter. Hes the champ for a reason. Hes a really humble guy, and Ive got to go into his hometown and take that belt. Hes not going to give it to me. But Pettis believes he is ready for the challenge. Working with the Wisconsin-based Roufusport camp, the dynamic striker also is tightening up his wrestling and jiu-jitsu game. On fight night, he believes he’ll be able to demonstrate his entire arsenal. I feel like I can win this fight everywhere. Pettis said. Its a matter of opportunity. It all comes down to who makes the first mistake and how well the other guy can capitalize off of it.
