You can prolong the use of your Bjj Gi provided you follow certain principles of its use.  Washing of your Bjj Gi needs great care in the sense that bleach should never be used while washing your Jiu Jitsu Gi.  Use cold water while you wash your Gi.  Avoid using hot water.  The method of drying your Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi is also very important when it comes to guarding it.  You should not allow the Gi to get dried by using an electric dryer.  Instead allow your Bjj Gi to line dry or hang dry.  Hang drying has got its own benefits.  It might take a full day sometimes for your Jiu Jitsu Gi to get dry, but do not worry about the natural drying process of hang drying or line drying.  Electric drying may reduce the life span of the Bjj Gi.  Hang drying on the contrary would prolong the use of the Bjj Kimonos in the sense that it paves the way for the longevity of the Bjj Gi.

 

You might wonder when you need a new Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi.  You need a new one if you develop stains at the back of the gear.  Stains are developed when you use bleach during wash.  These stains look ugly on your Jiu Jitsu Gi.  Hence you make it a point to buy a new Gi if you spot stains on it.  Stains may result when you wash your Jiu Jitsu Gi with warm or hot water too.  Hence, it should be understood that the use of bleach or hot water while washing your Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi would tamper with the longevity of your Bjj Kimonos and you would feel the necessity to change your Bjj Gi often.  Make sure you follow the principles discussed above that would ensure the longevity of your Bjj Kimonos so that you can prolong the use of it.  Since the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi is made of a delicate fabric it is your duty to protect it from wear and tear.  Natural tear of the Gi cannot be prevented since the sport involves severe grappling.  Hence it would be better for you to go for a new Bjj Gi if you find it torn during a training session or during a competition.  This is because no competition would allow torn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi worn by the competitors.  So take the decision of buying a new Jiu Jitsu Gi at the appropriate time.
