Randy Couture a Legend of MMA

Many fans remember UFC 13, when “The Nature” made his debut as a MMA fighter. He won that tournament; that was when the UFC was a tournament system. In UFC 15 he fought as an “underdog” like many times in his career to Vitor Belfort.  He was victorious showing pure strategy and his Greco-wrestling skills. Later after winning the Heavyweight title form Maurice Smith, he went outside to fight for other promotions. His record outside the UFC was 2 win 2 loses. Later he returns to the UFC to challenge Kevin Randleman for the Heavyweight title, winning the belt for second time.

Before defending his title he went to Rings King of Kings 2000 tournament and won his first match to later lose the second one. Later he returned to the UFC where he defended his title 2 times against Pedro Rizzo. He lost to Josh Barnet t in his next fight, but Barnett tested positive to steroids.  Because Barnett’s positive the title were declared vacant and Couture fought Ricco Rodriguez. He lost that fight. After two consecutive losses, he decided to drop up to Light Heavyweight and fought Chuck Liddell for the interim title. Being an “underdog “again, won that fight and became the first UFC fighter to won titles in two different division.  The next fight was with Tito Ortiz to decide the Undisputed UFC Light Heavyweight champion, Couture won that match. After losing and winning two fights with Vitor Belfort, Couture lost to Chuck Liddell in a rematch.

A third match with Liddell happened and Couture lost to him again by knock out, after the match Randy took the microphone and announced his retirement from the sport. After two months from his retirement, he was included in the UFC Hall of Famer. His retirement didn’t last too much, after a year Couture decide to return to the UFC and challenged for Tim Sylvia for the UFC Heavyweight title. With 43 years old he was a big “underdog” again and surprised everyone when he dominated the big heavyweight all the five rounds.  In his next match he defends his title against Gabriel Gonzaga.  After that fight he had a few disputes with the UFC management. He later return again to the UFC to fight Brock Lesnar, he lost that fight and his next fight. Having two lost streaks he decided to drop weight again. He has a 3 consecutive wins and now at his 47 years old is fighting Lyoto Machida at UFC 129.

My heart is wishing that Couture win that fight but my head tell me to bet to Machida. Maybe I end betting Machida but if Randy pulls a victory I will not be upset. I’m a fan of Randy Couture and his is a legend of this sport.
